Follow The Detour: An Open Detour Method Practice For Everyone
Join Cecily Milne of Yoga Detour as she comes to Portland for the first time to lead the renowned Detour Method Immersion weekend. This training is known for bringing contemporary perspectives in movement research to the world of yoga asana, introducing instructors and serious students to a practice environment that is explorative and non-dogmatic. This opportunity could forever change the way you practice and teach, exposing the bridge between the yoga you already know and the broader world of movement. In this two-hour class, we'll move through the body head-to-toe, exploring mobility from a point of view that utilizes the signature Detour approach of "isolate, activate, integrate". We'll wake up areas of the body that may have been dormant for years while bringing awareness to the full functionality of our joints and movement patterns. Walk out feeling dialed into your potential and ready for more.
Weekend Immersion: $75 per session or sign up for all 5 sessions for $315
Yoga Detour is known for seamlessly blending physiology and exercise science with traditional postures. As the creator of this Movement Education method, Cecily specializes in bridging the gap between yoga asana and the functional requirements of moving well through everyday life. During this deep dive into the Detour method, she will explore the four main pillars of this approach to practice:
Part 1, Saturday 9-12pm: What the Cuss Does "Engage Your Core" Mean? - Spinal Mechanics, Centration and Core Stability
Part 2, Saturday 2-5pm: Why Your Glutes Want to Wake up, Not Shut Down - Integrating Lower Body Strength and Mobility into Standing Postures
Part 3, Sunday 9-12pm: Reach Up Like You Mean It - Integrating Upper Body Strength and Mobility into Backbends and Arm Balances
Part 4, Sunday 2-5pm: Floor Play - Finding Your Flow from the Ground Up
Cecily will demonstrate how to layer these foundational elements of a Detour-style practice into a complete class, creating an informed full-body experience balanced with humour, question-asking and honest dialogue.
About Cecily Milne:
An avid Ashtanga practitioner from 2003-2013, Cecily practiced under the guidance of senior teachers before becoming injured. She has worked with Dr. Andreo Spina to receive certification as both a Functional Range Conditioning Movement Specialist (FRCms) and a Functional Range Assessment provider. Cecily also studied Applied Training/Sports Animation in 2016 with internationally renowned Osteopath, Dr. Guy Voyer D.O., creator of the SomaTraining system and ELDOA.
As the Creator of Yoga Detour, Cecily is driven to raise the standards of the yoga and movement teaching community. She has invested countless hours in creating this stand-alone program that connects science to intuition and learning to experience, shifting mindsets through movement. She works as a yoga “integrator”, leading her signature Move Well classes at Downward Dog Yoga Centre in Toronto and traveling around the world introducing people to the Detour Method.
