Fundraiser: Help Support Our Beloved Bhaktishop Teacher, Theresia Munywoki!

Fridays at 4pm and all month long in the drop jar and online, please help us support one of our dear teachers and friends as she navigates the complexity of unemployment, mental health crisis and family illness.

This fundraiser is an opportunity to not only provide direct reparations to a black femme who has lived under the violence of white supremacy her entire life, but also to aid her family directly and those in her community who also share her experiences. Theresia has the interest of other black femmes in mind and plans to share a portion of the proceeds of this fundraiser with her community at a time when they all need it most.

Thank you in advance to all who donate, and to everyone who shares the fundraiser with others. Let’s show up for black femmes and let them know how valuable, valid, and necessary they are, regardless of what the systems in power suggest. Our pathways to liberation are intimately connected to the survival and thriving of the collective.

Compassionate Resistance Campaign: June

Yoga Foundations 1, by Donation

Fridays at 4pm

Join us all month long on Fridays at 4pm as well as in the drop-jar on the desk as we serve SPARK: Reproductive Justice Now!

What Is Reproductive Justice?

SPARK defines Reproductive Justice as a social justice movement rooted in the belief that individuals and communities should have the resources and power to make sustainable and liberatory decisions about their bodies, genders, sexualities, and lives.

Reproductive Justice is pro-sex, sexuality, gender, queer bodies, access to abortion and contraception, birth rights and chosen families, and so much more.

For SPARK, reproductive justice is the ability for Georgia and the South to continuously cultivate communities where we can all make sustainable and liberatory decisions about our bodies, genders, sexualities, families, and lives holistically and without shame or fear of policing.

Join us in building and sustaining a powerful Southern reproductive justice movement!

Fridays at 4pm

Join us all month long on Fridays at 4pm as well as in the drop-jar on the desk as we serve Adelante Mujeres, right here in Portland.

For many Latina women and their families, generations of poverty, social isolation and sexism have combined to limit opportunities for empowerment and education. When a woman feels empowered, everything for her changes.

We believe that every Latina deserves to feel empowered, to rise up, to have her voice be heard, and to lead. We work to empower marginalized Latina women and their families through education, enterprise and leadership opportunities. Latina women and children benefit from adult education classes, the Chicas youth development program, early childhood education classes, and ESPERE training.

Leadership development is incorporated into all of our classes to ensure our future is full of strong Latina leaders. Latina women and families are economically empowered through our small business and agriculture classes, our Farmers Market, CSA program and Nourish the Community project.

LOVE YOU MORE/Shifting From Stress To Rest: A Benefit for Living Yoga with Makeda Stewart

Sunday April 21st, 3-6pm

$30 suggested donation to benefit Living Yoga, no one turned away

Come enjoy a safe space to move, be with your thoughts, and journal your deepest intentions of the heart. As we focus on releasing what no longer serves us, there will be guided meditation, a gentle yoga asana sequence filled with poses that promote opening, and a deep, juicy restorative practice, all held within ceremony, candles and low lighting. Bring an item that represents something that needs attention in your life and place it near the altar, along with a small notebook for writing. In a world full of environmental stressors, let’s capture how to release those things that affect us on a cellular and spiritual level, together. Leave with a sense of lightness as you collect brave affirmations and a little chocolate to remember there are sweet times, too.

All bodies, all levels welcome as we celebrate and honor the work of Living Yoga.

Workshop:

It can be difficult to remain centered amidst the chaos of a culture that continues to divide and conquer. Many are wondering how to respond to increasingly oppressive policies, political divisions and the current cultural upheaval. While we have questions about how to respond, I believe that we must respond with steadfastness and courageous hearts to the urgent concerns of this time. Contemplative practices, including meditation and yoga, allow us to work with sensation, toxic thought patterns, cultural conditioning, overwhelm, and anxiety through mindfulness and thoughtful care. In this workshop, we will deepen our understanding of the principles of justice and yoga; the workings of power and privilege, oppression and identity, suffering and liberation, and loving kindness.

Creating Size-Inclusive Spaces with Dana Sturtevant and Hilary Kinavey of Be Nourished

Sunday, February 10th, 3-7pm $140

Many leaders in the social justice movement have blinders on when it comes to addressing weight bias and size discrimination in their liberation work. We cause harm when we reinforce that body size is correctable and fatphobia runs rampant in our society, often going unchecked. While weight bias impacts all of us, people on the higher end of the weight spectrum are significantly impacted and their health suffers. Many larger bodied folks avoid activities they enjoy because movement spaces collude with diet culture under the guise of health promotion. In this interactive workshop, Hilary Kinavey, MS, LPC, and Dana Sturtevant, MS, RD of Be Nourished will guide participants through a series of activities to help yoga teachers, fitness professionals, and health care providers create size-inclusive spaces for the people they serve.

Compassionate Resistance Campaign: February

Fridays at 4pm

Join us all month long on Fridays at 4pm as well as in the drop-jar on the desk as we serve the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women of the USA (www.mmiwusa.org)

MMIW USA’s number one mission is to bring our missing home and help the families of the murdered cope and support them through the process of grief. We give them hands-on support and guidance and if we don’t have the answers, we get the answers so that these families do not feel abandoned and alone in this struggle like so many have before them. Our broader goal is to eradicate this problem so that the future generations thrive. We are doing that through education of the threats that they face and self-defense. We just started a monthly program to do just that. It is called Staying Sacred and we educate and have self-defense lessons at every meeting. Our strength lies in the fact that every single one of the staff and volunteers have been assaulted or trafficked and our passion is to be the kind of organization that we needed growing up and beyond.

LGBTQ Inclusivity Practices for Yoga Teachers with Zeyah Roge

Friday January 4, 5:30-8pm $45 (Equity pricing available)

This workshop is created for yoga teachers who have a genuine wish to create a safer and more respectful learning environment for their LGBTQ students. Despite our best of intentions, systematic homophobia and transphobia creep into studio culture and teaching practices. It takes an ongoing, active effort to build empathy, illuminate blindspots, and repair damage caused by the unexamined perpetuation of prejudice, and this workshop assists you in this process.

All the proceeds of Fridays at 4pm will go to www.honorearth.org.

Their mission is to create awareness and support for Native environmental issues and to develop needed financial and political resources for the survival of sustainable Native communities. Honor the Earth develops these resources by using music, the arts, the media, and Indigenous wisdom to ask people to recognize our joint dependency on the Earth and be a voice for those not heard. Honor the Earth is a Native-led organization, established by Winona LaDuke and Indigo Girls Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, in 1993 to address the two primary needs of the Native environmental movement: the need to break the geographic and political isolation of Native communities and the need to increase financial resources for organizing and change.

Racial Equity, Inclusion and Implicit Bias: An Anti-Racism Workshop with Kenya Budd

Sunday, September 23rd, 3-7pm $75

We are delighted to welcome Kenya Budd, Equity and Racial Inclusion facilitator, into this public forum and conversation about racism, whiteness, and anti-racism, in which the whole community can benefit.

We all have implicit biases - ways in which we think things about other people that are based on our own bias, not on reality --  As Daniel Kahneman has said, "We're blind to the obvious, and blind to our blindness" about our own thinking, which can be mistaken.  The key question is always whether we are willing to learn more deeply about ourselves and, importantly for our lives and livelihoods, ask ourselves: at what point do our implicit biases become another person's impediments to accessing health and wellness services?

This summer, join us on Fridays at 4pm and in the drop-jar on the desk all summer long in supporting the Chinook Indian Nation, aka Confederated Lower Chinook Tribes & Bands

This land is traditional territory of the non-federally recognized Chinook Nation. The land was ceded in the 1855 Willamette Valley treaty that established the Grand Ronde Indian Reservation. We're here because this land was occupied, and its traditional people displaced by colonists and settlers. We recognize this business occupies colonized Native territory and out of respect for the rights of Native people, it's our collective responsibility to critically interrogate the colonial histories and current implications of this systemic oppression, and to honor, protect and sustain this land.

Please join us in supporting the Movement for Black Lives and the Electoral Justice League. The Electoral Justice Project (EJP) is a project of the Movement for Black Lives that seeks to continue a long legacy of social movements fighting for the advancement of the rights of Black folks through electoral strategy. We recognize that electoral work alone will not change the conditions plaguing Black communities, but we believe that Black people deserve a loving and strategic political home to seek transformational political change.

Saturdays at 1pm throughout the month of May, help us support the Compassionate Resistance Campaign, an opportunity for us to gather and give in the name of justice and hope. You can simply come to class, you can donate to the jar on the desk, and we will do the rest.

We are living in times of great change. Times of great flux are also opportunities for us to explore possibilities - ways of being in community, supporting one another and caring for ourselves, and working together to create change that is loving, just, and transformational. Spiritual justice work helps us to recognize, cultivate and value different mindsets and new leadership styles. The Spiritual Justice Immersion is the core program offered by the Yoga + Social Justice Collaborative. In this workshop, you will learn to draw upon a deeper well of spiritual strength and intuitive knowledge to support your own healing and wellbeing and to anchor your work with partners, community and family. In a safe and supportive environment this training will help you use simple yoga and meditation practices to cultivate self-awareness and reveal your unique role in working with social justice values. In community, we will practice the skills that will help to build resilience, compassion, community and self care as anchors for your justice and healing work, as you gain clarity on becoming an effective agent for change in a world that is calling for health and healing.

Why this organization? Everytown is a movement of Americans working together to end gun violence and build safer communities. Gun violence touches every town in America. For too long, change has been thwarted by the Washington gun lobby and by leaders who refuse to take common-sense steps that will save lives.

But something is changing. More than 4 million mayors, moms, cops, teachers, survivors, gun owners, and everyday Americans have come together to make their own communities safer. Together, we are fighting for the changes that we know will save lives. Everytown starts with us, and it starts in our town.
