Yoga & Aging Gently Team
"Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured, and to endure what cannot be cured." B.K.S. Iyengar
Meet Ruth Casebeer, Diane Thompson and Maxine Fookson, your Yoga & Aging Gently team of teachers! These mature and wise women aim to help you realize your full potential, all the while helping you move with grace, wisdom and ease as you learn to continuously grow, even in the midst of the challenges of aging.
The simple practice of turning up for Yoga classes in my earlier darkened days of midlife depression, adrenal fatigue and then menopause made these ailments and experiences bearable for me, allowing me to heal and transform. With increased balance and alignment, the aches and pains have dissipated and I feel alert and fluid, and my daily chores are done with ease. I know I will continue with my work and hobbies of gardening, tennis, golf and hiking well into my senior years as I continue to live independently. I am deeply grateful for the ways in which yoga has enriched my life beyond building strength and flexibility; yoga has also wound its way into all aspects of my life. I am a graduate of The Bhaktishop Yoga School 2015.
Some of the joys in my life that I hold dear to my heart now that I am in my sixties are both my womanhood and being an Elementary Montessori Guide. Both have taught me and still teach me the importance of self-construction and self-love. These lifelong processes have unfolded and blossomed into a devoted bhakti yoga practice that I love to share with others. I also hope that it helps them in some way to find their full potential, which is just glowing inside, and within their reach. I am a graduate of The Bhaktishop Yoga School 2009, and continue to study, learn and practice.
All my professional life I have been a Nurse Practitioner, and my workdays were always very long and stressful. When I got on my yoga mat, I’d feel a sense of calm and focus. I came to see yoga as my gift of care for myself, so I could care better for others. As I get older, I also love that yoga provides strength and flexibility. I found that, for me, it is so true that what I cultivate on the yoga mat helps me so much in my life off the mat. I am a graduate of The Bhaktishop Yoga School 2014.
